Steel Window Repairs
We offer a full repair/overhaul service for all types of steel window generically known as “Crittall” including casement, pivoted, top hung. Generally modern steel windows are manufactured to a nationally agreed set of profiles and are known as W20 & W40 or a slight variation on these profiles. W20 & W40 are designed to accommodate a double glazed sealed unit which vastly improves the thermal performance of the window.
Also we offer a thermal upgrade to older single glazed windows provided the transom/mullion is deep enough to accommodate a double glazed sealed unit and hardwood beading.
Where parts are deemed to be unavailable we can source at a competitive cost handles, seals, glazing beads from our bespoke suppliers, often bespoke parts are cheaper than the original. Items such as hinges are readily sourced from current manufacturers. Sashes without weather seals can be readily draft proofed with a silicone based system. Where a sash is twisted badly the glass will be removed, the sash straightened and then reglazed.
Generally most steel systems are hot dip galvanised which means if this seal is broken during repair just a coat of zinc rich primer is required to achieve an effective seal once more.
We offer a service to upgrade annealed glass to meet the requirements of B.S. 6206 which details the requirements of safety glass.
